Pull-out strength of glued-in GFRP rods in timber connections by using of epoxy resin reinforced by nanoparticles

ABSTRACT Background: In timber structures, connections are the most important and critical section which supply strength of each structural element. The aim this study was evaluation behavior epoxy resin reinforced by nanoclay (at three levels) on pull-out glued-in GFRP rods in glulam. For purpose, two with lengths (50, 150 250 mm) diameters (6.4, 12.7 19.1 were inserted at opposite sides glulam blocks (with dimension 8.89 x 29.94 cm) glued resin. Samples underwent tensile testing their shear measured. obtained data analyzed statistically effects studied factors bond evaluated. Results: results showed that bonding increased addition a low amount nanoclay, length rod had greater effect than its diameter. Furthermore, diameter could not significantly affect simultaneously, performance rods. Conclusion: Nanoclay particle can be considered as reinforcement for may cause considerable increase mechanical strengths joints.
